Joni is a Singaporean theatre practitioner who has called Perth home for the past 20 years. With a rich background in puppetry, performance, and working with young people, she has collaborated with companies including Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Sensorium Theatre, A Blanck Canvas, Clown Doctors Australia, and Barking Gecko Arts.
Through the Fellowship, Joni will develop a deeply personal new work that brings together puppetry, food, and storytelling, inspired by the communal act of dumpling-making. The work explores themes of migration, identity, belonging, and cultural transmission, using food as a universal entry point for connection.
This intimate, sensory and participatory work aims to create meaningful connections across generations, with potential to extend into workshops that foster cultural exchange.
We can’t wait to support Joni as she embarks on this exciting next chapter!
