A Children's Guide to the Future
Ages 8 - 12
Step into a world of curiosity, imagination and future forecasting where young minds become time travellers on a journey to the world of tomorrow and beyond!
From magical cities in the sky, to holographic pets, flying bikes and underwater homes that exist deep at sea, participants will travel forward and use their wildest ideas to envision our world 50 years from now. We ask children to question, imagine, dream and wonder how space, nature, technology and society might evolve in years to come, whilst simultaneously exploring a vision of their future selves many years from now. With endless possibilities to explore, participants will use drama, performance and storytelling techniques to devise a world of new inventions, adventures and ideas that could shape the world. With every prediction, they’ll discover that the world is full of possibilities and their imaginations hold the key to what comes next!
With a focus on fun and creativity and led by Barking Gecko Arts Senior Teaching Artist Michelle Hall, across 4 days young creatives will learn performance and theatre making skills such as improvisation, voice, movement, and devising whilst building their confidence and self-expression all while making fantastic new friendships in a fun, inclusive and nurturing environment. Participants will then share their creative discoveries with an informal showing for family and friends on the final day.

Star Stories
Ages 8 - 12
For thousands of years, people have looked up to the night sky and told stories about the stars, with many cultures interpreting these magical formations in their own unique way. These celestial myths tell stories of vengeful gods and goddesses, of monsters and heroes and ancestral spirits. Others try to make sense of the natural world or unravel the mysteries of the universe. They reflect the ways in which different cultures sought to understand their place in the cosmos, weaving mythology, spirituality and natural observation into enduring tales that still captivate us today.
Join us for this exhilarating workshop across 3 days as we journey into the night sky and other universes and look to create our own star stories. Inspired by the many beautiful tales that exist across cultures and led by Barking Gecko Arts Teaching Artists, young creatives will create their own characters and learn performance and theatre making skills whilst simultaneously building their confidence and self-expression all while making fantastic new friendships in a fun, inclusive and nurturing environment.

Reasons to Stay Inside
Ages 8 - 12
Sometimes, it might seem like there are a million reasons not to go outside – like sunburn, bad drivers, dog bites, bee stings, cracks in footpaths, tsunamis and umbrella’s that turn inside out! Sometimes, our powerful imaginations can convince us that it’s safer just to stay inside…but when we find the courage to step out into the world, we learn that there are so many amazing things out there waiting for us!
Inspired by Barking Gecko Arts upcoming production of Reasons To Stay Inside, this 4 day workshop will explore the power of friendships in the face of adversity and how each of us can find a way to discover our inner courage and bravery in ways we least expect – especially when we have a friend by our side! Using creativity and imagination, we’ll create our own, unique version of a magical space where everyone and anyone feels safe – a place to find comfort until you are ready to step back out into the world again!
Led by Barking Gecko Arts Teaching Artists, young creatives will create their own characters and learn performance and theatre making skills whilst simultaneously building their confidence and self-expression all while making fantastic new friendships in a fun, inclusive and nurturing environment. Participants will then share their creative discoveries with an informal showing for family and friends on the final day.
