Inspiring Teachers to Imagine Bigger

Barking Gecko Arts’ Teacher Studio Sessions are professional learning intensives designed to empower educators with creative tools, confidence, and renewed inspiration. These immersive workshops invite teachers into the world of theatre-making and storytelling, equipping them with practical strategies to enrich classroom practice and foster deeper engagement with students.

About

In each session, participants will be guided by industry facilitators through hands-on creative processes drawn from productions, rehearsal rooms, and community-engaged practice. The sessions will focus on:

  • Creative pedagogy and arts integration
  • Process-driven learning grounded in improvisation, storytelling, and movement
  • Collaboration and co-creation within supportive, playful environments
  • Building capacity and confidence in delivering arts-based experiences

Purpose

We believe educators are creative leaders. By nurturing their artistry and giving space for professional rejuvenation, we create ripple effects—where curiosity, empathy, and imagination flow into the classroom.

  • Access to contemporary theatre-making practices aligned with curriculum goals.

1. Who are the sessions for?

Primary and secondary educators, drama specialists, generalist teachers, and education support staff with a passion for the arts—or a curiosity to grow creatively.

2. When and where will the sessions be held?

The sessions will be on Tuesday 10 & Wednesday 11 June 2025 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at the Subiaco Arts Centre, 180 Hamersley Road, Subiaco. The sessions will not be available online.  

3. What sessions will be covered across the event?

4. What do I need to bring?

  • A notebook and pen for reflections and notes.
  • Comfortable clothing for movement-based activities.
  • A willingness to engage, experiment, and collaborate!

5. Will this event be catered?

Yes, food and beverages will be available to participants across each night. Please include any dietary requirements in your registration.

6. Is there any cost to participate in the sessions?

No, participation is free. The sessions are proudly supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through their Creative Learning and Partnerships Grant.
